Winemaking Philosophy / Styles Series- INTRODUCTION

Winemakers have a style, a philosophy, and of course their very own likes and dislikes.

These unique ideas and perspectives are what create trends, or build wineries. Most wineries are on the map because they have developed a style that is unique based on the guidance of a winemaking personality.

I am going to focus, in a series of articles, on these styles, how they can be interpreted, and how they affect the wine, and wine industry as a whole. So, the next time you open a bottle of wine, you will have some idea as to what the winemaker behind the bottle has tried to accomplish. From there it is your job to ask, did they achieve that goal?

Please feel free to highlight in the notes below questions you have about the different winemaking philosophies there are. Any point in the winemaking process can have differing opinion on the best tactics, so no topic is a stupid topic.
